Damp coming through the roof ruins plaster, paint and rebar, and makes a home unhealthy. With Hyperdesmo polyurethane membrane we create a continuous, elastic, seamless layer that stops water and stands up to the Greek sun.

Hyperdesmo by Alchimica is a liquid polyurethane membrane. It is applied by roller or brush, cures with the moisture in the air and becomes a single elastic sheet that follows the roof's movement without tearing. The white version reflects sunlight and keeps the top floor cooler in summer.

We waterproof flat roofs, balconies, planters and pitched roofs in Ilion, Peristeri and all over Athens. The result depends mostly on preparation, so we always do it thoroughly.

Step by step

How we apply Hyperdesmo: step by step

  1. Inspection and moisture check

We check the roof, its falls, the drains and the moisture in the concrete. The substrate must be dry (moisture up to about 5%) for the membrane to bond.

  2. Removing old materials

We strip loose old waterproofing, blistered bitumen membranes, loose tiles and mortar.

  3. Pressure washing

We wash the roof with a pressure washer, removing dust, oil, moss and cement laitance, and let it dry fully.

  4. Repairs and cracks

We open and fill cracks, repair broken areas and form coves at wall-floor corners so the membrane doesn't break at sharp edges.

  5. Priming

We apply the right Alchimica primer for the substrate (concrete, tiles, old membrane). The primer seals the pores and secures adhesion.

  6. Reinforcing cracks and corners

At cracks, corners and around drains and pipes we lay Hyperdesmo with embedded polyester fabric, where the structure moves most and needs reinforcement.

  7. First coat of Hyperdesmo

We mix at low speed and roll out the first coat, about 0.7–0.9 kg/m², over the whole surface and up the parapets.

  8. Second coat, crosswise

After 6 to 24 hours (and never more than 48) we apply the second coat crosswise, about 0.8–0.9 kg/m². In total the membrane reaches at least 1.5–1.8 kg/m².

  9. UV topcoat (optional)

Where the roof gets foot traffic or a stable colour is wanted, we finish with aliphatic Hyperdesmo-ADY, which doesn't yellow in the sun.

  10. Curing and final check

We let the membrane cure with no rain and no foot traffic, check the drains and hand over.

When does a roof need waterproofing?

  • When damp stains, mould or blistering appear on the top-floor ceiling.
  • When the old waterproofing has cracked, come loose or blistered.
  • When water pools after rain.
  • When the top floor is very hot in summer: a white membrane reflects much of the sun's radiation.

Besides flat roofs, we waterproof balconies, planters, pitched roofs, basements and foundations, and install external thermal insulation to save energy.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Roof waterproofing

How long does Hyperdesmo roof waterproofing last?

It depends on the membrane thickness, preparation and how the roof is used. With the right amount of material and good preparation, a Hyperdesmo membrane protects the roof for many years, and a UV topcoat also keeps its colour.

Can new waterproofing go over the old one?

Often yes, if the old layer is well bonded. Anything loose or blistered is removed, and we use a primer suited to the existing surface.

What is the best season for roof waterproofing?

It needs a dry surface and about 5–35 °C with no rain for 1–2 days. Spring, summer and autumn are ideal; in winter we work on days with settled weather.

Does a white membrane keep the home cooler?

Yes. A white polyurethane membrane reflects much of the sun's radiation, so the slab heats up less and the top floor stays cooler.
